What is a Dental Cleaning?
Maintaining your regular 6-month dental cleaning reinforces the oral health-care that you perform at home (brushing and flossing). A professional dental cleaning allows a thorough cleaning in areas of your teeth you may not easily reach at home. Dr. Bridget uses an ultrasonic scaler to remove any plaque and tartar at the gum lines. Afterwards, she uses hand scaling instruments to reach deeper areas in between the teeth for a more detailed cleaning.
What Is Involved During My Cleaning Exam?
At BME dental, our 6 month cleaning involves several preventative services.
X-rays are taken to ensure there are no internal cavities
An oral evaluation is performed to inspect for smaller cavities that aren't detected by the x-rays
Gum tissue is evaluated to ensure no periodontal disease may be lurking in the shadows
Plaque and tartar are removed from your teeth
How Important is it to Get a Cleaning Every 6 Months?
It’s very important to regularly and consistently get a cleaning! There are many areas where plaque and tartar can form that you cannot reach and therefore cannot clean properly. Therefore, it is crucial that you maintain your regular check up and cleaning so that we can address the issues while they are small. Delaying diagnosis and treatment may lead to more expensive costs, such as root canals, extractions, or periodontal disease.
